Βιογραφικό:
Professor, School of Rural & Surveying Engineers, National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He was born in Piraeus, Greece, on the 10th of February, 1953. He received his B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Athens (1975), the M.Sc. in Astronomy from the University of Sussex, England (1977) and his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the same University (1979). He has worked as Lecturer, School of Rural and Surveying Engineers, National Technical University of Athens (1982 – 1991), as Assistant Professor (1991 – 2001) and as Associate Professor (2001-2008) at the same place before his election in the present position. His scientific interests include Astrophysics (photometry, astrometry, and stellar systems), Geodetic Astronomy (reference systems for position and time) and Computer Science (optimization of algorithms, classification methods, pattern recognition). He is a member of several Working Groups for the preparation of the GAIA mission (since 2002), member of Coordination Unit 8 of GAIA Data Processing & Analysis Consortium (DPAC) and has served as member of the National Steering Committee of the European Programme “Physics on Stage” (supported by EIROforum) (2000-2007). He has served as a Member and Executive Secretary of the Greek National Committee for Astronomy (1994-2001), as Director of the Section of Topography (2004-06) and as Vice President of the School of RSE, NTUA (since 2006).
