Biography:
Professor, Department of the Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean, Rhodes, Greece. Director (& Founder) of the Laboratory of Archaeometry, Membre Correspondant de l’ Academie des Sciences, Arts et Belles Lettres, Dijon, France, and, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences & Arts, Saltzburg (Branch IV Natural Sciences). Born in Delphi, Greece, on the 2nd of November, 1953, he received the B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Patras, Greece (1975) and the Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1979. He has done post doc work in Cambridge (UK), Harwell Atomic Center Establishment (UK), MacMaster Univ., Oxford Univ., and Edinburgh University and as a visiting professor in Bordeaux III, France. He has worked as a researcher on ancient monuments at the Ministry of Culture, Greece and ten years as a senior Researcher at the Research Center of Astronomy and Applied Mathematics of the Academy of Athens, Greece. His scientific interests include Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy, History of Astronomy & Science, Geophysics, Nuclear Physics, Dosimetry and Archaeometry, and he has published more than 200 papers on these subjects, with over 80 in astronomy and related fields, and 8 Books (three in English). He serves as Editor or Editor-in-Chief or Member of Editorial Board of 11 International Journals. He founded and is Editor- in-Chief of the Mediterranean Archaeology & Archaeometry International Journal. He has been a member of Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S.). He is a member of many International & National Scientific Societies such as, the International Astronomical Union (IAU), The Royal Astronomical Society, The Institute of Physics, U.K., and The European Society of Astronomy in Culture.
