Biography:
Astronomer (retired) at the Laboratoire d Astrophysique de Marseille, in France. She was born in Athens, received her B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Athens in 1970, her Ph.D. from the University of Thessaloniki in 1974 and her These d Etat from the Universite de Franche Comte in 1978. She worked at the Demokritos Nuclear Research Center (1971 - 1974), Besancon Observatory (1976, 1978 - 1983), ESO (1977) and since 1983 at the Observatory of Marseille. She became emeritus Emeritus Astronomy Professor at Aix-Marseille University in 2016. Her research interests include dynamics, formation and evolution of galaxies and N-body simulations. She has made seminal contributions in her research field and was awarded the Fotinos Prize of the Academy of Athens in 2005, the Brouwer Award in 2011. She became Legacy Fellow of the American Astronomical Society in 2020 and ”Antepistelon” member of the Academy of Athens also in 2020.
