Emeritus Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He was born in Athens, Greece on the 17th of March, 1940 and passed away in Athens on September 1, 2024. He received the B.Sc. in Mechanical – Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1964) and the Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, U.S.A. (1970) under the supervision of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. He has been Research Associate at the Universities of Texas and Cambridge. Scientifically he was mainly interested in the General theory of Relativity and he has published many papers on this subject. He had a rich editorial work and has published various textbooks. He was a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), of the American Physical Society, of the I.S.G.R.G, of the T.E.E. and a founding member of the Hellenic Astronomical Society (Hel.A.S.).
